Hooray, I’ve had my first publication of the year and it’s with the fabulous online literary journal Corvid Queen!
My short story, Mother Of All Things, has been published online and can be read here.
Another piece written during my Creative Writing Master’s, Mother Of All Things is an imagined retelling of the Hungarian myth of the Wind Mother (Szélanya). I discovered this folk tale while writing my short story collection about ‘the female scream’. A lot of the stories were somewhat mythic in origin and after including a reference to the Wind Mother in another piece, I knew I had to give her a spotlight of her own.
In fact, I placed Mother Of All Things as the last story in the collection as I hoped it offered the reader a little optimism to end on – but I can let you be the judge of that!
Corvid Queen is the home of inclusive, feminist and queer fairy tales, folks and myths. The whole site is gorgeous and full of fantastic pieces by writers all over the world, so I definitely recommend having a peruse. It’s an honour to be published by them and the perfect home for my piece.

Here’s a sneak peek of the story. Please do go ahead and read the whole thing on the Corvid Queen website!
High above the hilltops is where she lives. Where the mountains pierce the heavens, and the sun hits first at daybreak.
It’s a place of in betweens. The land is meeting the sky, and the earth is meeting the air. She has always been here. She is in between too — what you think she is and what you want her to be. All the life she has witnessed and been a part of.
If you ever caught a glimpse, you wouldn’t be able to recall what she looks like. She shimmers and flickers between her selves like a flame in the breeze. She has sat atop this mountain since the beginning of it all, looking down on the earth in pain and adoration.
She has many names — ways to try and pin her down — but she cannot be defined.
Szélanya. Nymph. Goddess of the wind.
Wind Mother.
